Vibgyor N.E. Foundation: Our Journey So Far

Since 2016, Vibgyor N.E. Foundation has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation across Northeast India and Chhattisgarh. We have successfully conducted eight editions of the Northeast Green Summit in collaboration with UN Environment, addressing regional environmental challenges and fostering community empowerment. Initiated at the North Eastern Hill University’s Tura Campus, the Summit has expanded to address a wide range of emerging areas, from climate change to green biotechnology, involving stakeholders from BIMSTEC nations.

Key Initiatives:

  • Northeast Green Summit: Developed a robust network of academia, practitioners, and entrepreneurs across the region. The Summit’s recommendations have influenced policy formation in the eight states of NER.

  • Borail Eco Camp: Promoted eco-tourism and indigenous culture in the Borail Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam.
  • Chhattisgarh Green Summit: In 2024, we hosted the first edition in association with Chhattisgarh Forest & Climate Change Department, NIT Raipur, Amity University, Chhattisgarh, and Prajna Pravah. The Summit focused on “Environmental Protection and Promotion in Lok Tradition,” honouring six unsung heroes for their contributions to sustainability.
  • Knowledge Exchange Platform: Created through international meets on medicinal plants at IIT Guwahati, generating a repository of edible herbs relevant to the Indo-Burma Biodiversity Hot Spot.
  • Millet Mission: Initiated in the Barak Valley area of Assam to promote sustainable agriculture.
  • Aranyani: The DocuFest: Launched during the 8th Northeast Green Summit, celebrating environmental documentary films and raising awareness about environmental issues.

Our collaboration with academic partners like North Eastern Hill University, IIT Guwahati, Botanical Survey of India, NIT Silchar, NIT Raipur, Rain Forest Research Institute, Amity University Chhattisgarh has resulted in the growth of a think tank supporting environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development.
