A Seminar on “Skilling Northeast India’s Tribals: Food processing, Handicrafts, Handlooms and the scope of other Green Activities” was organized by Vibgyor N.E. Foundation to promote and protect various sustainable livelihood options and associated skills for the indigenous people of the region besides ensuring economic sustainability, employment of a large section of unemployed youth, women and rural population.
Seminar on “Sustainable Development through Nature Based Tourism: Involving fringe forest communities and other groups in NE to safeguard environment” was organized by the Foundation. It was attended by forest officials, students, local people in and around Shillong, and even some ex-poachers from Manas National Park, who have become “Conservation Vollunteers” now. Various issues related to Ecotourism, Sustainable Tourism, Local community issues, livelihoods in the forest fringe areas, man-animal conflict, conservation of forests, wildlife and policy related issues were discussed during the session.
