BOOSTING BIOENTREPRENEURSHIP
BOOSTING BIOENTREPRENEURSHIP
Established in Hailakandi, Assam, in collaboration with IIT Guwahati, the BRC project aims to develop high-value products from indigenous plants, promoting bio-entrepreneurship, and positively impacting the local economy. Sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, the project focuses on producing powder, flake, and liquid products, and providing training to foster entrepreneurship.
Key achievements include the establishment of a pilot plant, training 1,261 beneficiaries (including 50 women SHG members), and founding MySuFu, a startup focused on medicinal mushroom-based products. The project has developed six product formulations and published a market report on herbal beverages along with a database of 310 medicinally significant plants.
Future plans involve scaling up production processes, developing new products like medicinal mushroom formulations and honey-based beverages, and creating forward linkages with industries. The project has generated employment opportunities, promoted entrepreneurship, and established a hub for bio-resource utilization in the region.
