CULTURAL HERITAGE NARRATIVES

SHOWCASING INDIGENOUS CULTURE

Vibgyor N.E. Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Forest, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and supported by United Nations Environment, organized the 8th Northeast Green Summit at the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Itanagar. The Summit focused on “Resetting Earth: Inching Towards Net-Zero Emission Region.”

Indigenous Storytelling Program

During the Summit, Vibgyor N.E. Foundation conducted an Indigenous Storytelling program. Students from the Donyi Polo Cultural & Charitable Trust’s unique ‘Gurukuls’, representing indigenous communities, performed a skit showcasing guardianship of nature, tribal heritage, and eco-stewardship. This program highlighted the deep-rooted cultural values and environmental responsibilities of these communities.

This apart, a folk artist group performed an act demonstrating the Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of hunting on biodiversity and promoted conservation efforts.

Impact and Significance

The Indigenous Storytelling component had a profound impact. It promoted cultural awareness and appreciation among attendees, provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, encouraged community engagement and participation, and emphasized the significance of preserving Chhattisgarh’s cultural heritage.

The success of this initiative underscores the importance of preserving traditional folklore and oral traditions. By doing so, we can ensure the continued vitality of the region’s rich traditions and folklore, fostering a deeper connection between the environment and our cultural heritage.
